Thinking about going to Fright Nights for the first time, but not totally sure what you’re signing yourself up for? Once the sun goes down, Warner Bros. Movie World looks very different. Think haunted mazes, roaming scare actors, horror-themed precincts, live entertainment and some of your favourite rides after dark.
Fright Nights is Warner Bros. Movie World’s annual after-hours Halloween event on the Gold Coast, held on selected nights in October. Whether you love horror or you’re the friend who usually watches scary movies from behind a cushion, this guide covers what to expect before you brave your first night.
What Is Fright Nights Movie World?
If you’ve never been before, the easiest way to explain what is Fright Nights is that Movie World gets a horror makeover for the night.
It isn’t simply the regular theme park with a few Halloween decorations added. You’ll find dedicated horror experiences throughout the park, from terrifying walk-through mazes to scare precincts and encounters with familiar Warner Bros. horror characters. Add rides after dark, live entertainment and plenty of eerie atmosphere, and you’ve got a very different Movie World experience.
Fright Nights 2026 takes place across nine selected nights from 3 to 31 October, with the event running from 6pm to 10pm.
What to Expect at Fright Nights Movie World
There’s a lot happening once you enter the park, and some of the Fright Nights terminology might be completely new if you’ve never been before.
Here’s what all those mazes, Panic Rooms and scare precincts actually mean.
What Are the Fright Nights Mazes?
The Fright Nights mazes are immersive walk-through horror experiences, each with a different theme and storyline. You’ll make your way through dark, detailed environments with scare actors, lighting, sound and special effects bringing each story to life.
There are five mazes to brave in 2026: Eternal Dark, Krypt of Kain, Circurse, Hellship and DCeased. One minute you could be navigating the infected spacecraft of Eternal Dark, the next exploring the wreck of the Dark Star cruise liner in Hellship.
You don’t have to do every maze, either. If it’s your first time, read up on them before you arrive and choose a couple of must-dos. Or, if horror is exactly why you’re going, make it your mission to survive all five.
What Are the Scare Precincts?
Scare precincts bring the horror to life throughout the park itself, with each themed area offering its own atmosphere, characters and surprises.
Make your way through Pain Street, where ruthless enforcers roam Main Street, before entering Carnival Creep Show, home to bloodthirsty clowns and the gateway to the Maze Hub. Over at The Meat Grinder, monstrous Butchers lurk in the darkness, while Fright Central is where you’ll find WB Horror Encounters and nightly entertainment on the Main Street stage.
Then there’s Slaughter House, one of the major hubs of Fright Nights. Along with being the terminus for four of the night’s mazes, it transforms into a pumping party of the damned, complete with DJs and a dance floor. It’s the perfect spot to swap screaming for dancing before heading back into the horror.
Each precinct has its own intensity and experience, so even getting from one attraction to the next becomes part of the night.
What Are WB Horror Encounters?
WB Horror Encounters give you the chance to come face-to-face with characters from the world of Warner Bros. horror.
For 2026, that includes characters such as Valak, Pennywise, Clayface and the Deadites of Evil Dead Burn. Unlike a full walk-through maze, these encounters put you face-to-face with some of horror’s most infamous characters, with a team member there to capture the moment on your own phone.
There’s also a photographer at each encounter capturing the action. Purchase a Fright Nights Digital Photo Pass and you’ll receive digital photos from all four WB Horror Encounters, giving you a souvenir of your horrifying night.
Keep an eye out as you explore Fright Central and see who you’re brave enough to face.
What Are Panic Rooms?
If you like puzzles with your horror, there are Panic Rooms too.
These are escape room-style experiences where you and your crew race against the clock to solve clues. Expect immersive sets, puzzles and plenty of pressure as you work together to escape before time runs out.
Unlike the scare mazes, Panic Rooms are not included with standard Fright Nights admission. They’re an optional extra that you book for a selected time slot, with eight different rooms to choose from. Fright Nights event entry is also required separately to a Panic Room purchase.
What Rides Are Open During Fright Nights?
Part of the fun of Fright Nights is experiencing Movie World rides after dark.
A selection of attractions operates during the event, including major thrill rides. Ride availability can change, however, so check what’s operating closer to your visit rather than building your whole night around one attraction.
Keep in mind that popular ride and maze queues can also close before the end of the night to allow attractions to finish operating on time. If there’s something you absolutely want to experience, don’t leave it until the last minute.

Is Fright Nights Scary?
Short answer: yes. It’s supposed to be.
Fright Nights contains extremely scary themes and experiences. Expect darkness, sudden scares, loud noises, eerie environments and performers getting close enough to make you seriously question why you volunteered to go first. Some areas also use visual effects and strobe lighting.
But if one of your biggest concerns is the Fright Night actors, here’s some reassurance: scare actors will not touch you. They may come close as part of the experience, but physical contact isn’t part of the event. Guests are also asked not to touch the performers.
Feeling overwhelmed? You don’t have to power through it. There are designated Safe Zones near the Fountain of Fame, DC Rivals HyperCoaster, Gotham City Cafe and Dirty Harry Bar & Grill where you can take a break and regroup. Their locations can also be found in the Village Roadshow Theme Parks App.
So, is Fright Nights scary if you’re usually a bit nervous around horror? Definitely. But you can still choose how you experience the night.
Is There a Fright Nights Age Limit?
If you’re searching for the Fright Nights age limit, there’s an important distinction between an age restriction and the event’s age recommendation.
Fright Nights contains extremely scary themes and experiences and is not recommended for children under 14 years of age. The official guidance also strongly recommends that children are accompanied by an adult responsible for their care and conduct.
Parents and guardians should consider how comfortable younger guests are with horror themes, darkness, loud sounds, and jump scares before attending.
What Time Does Fright Night Start?
Wondering what time does Fright Night start? In 2026, Fright Nights officially runs from 6pm to 10pm on selected nights from 3 to 31 October.
There is one very handy first-timer tip, though. Fright Nights ticket holders can present their ticket at the turnstiles from 5pm and access available attractions before the event officially begins at 6pm.
If you’ve added First Bite to your night, arriving early is even more important. The pre-event experience kicks off from 4:30pm, giving you the chance to start your Fright Nights experience before the main event gets underway.
Otherwise, getting there early gives you time to enter, get your bearings and work out what you want to tackle first.
Also keep in mind that popular maze and ride queues can close before 10pm so attractions can finish operating by the event close. Don’t leave your number-one must-do until 9:55pm.
What Does a Fright Nights Ticket Include?
Your standard Fright Nights ticket includes entry on your selected event date, plus access to the haunted mazes, scare precincts, WB Horror Encounters, entertainment and selected rides operating after dark.
Panic Rooms, Fast Track, First Bite, Digital Photo Pass and daytime Movie World entry aren’t included with standard admission and need to be purchased separately.
It’s worth knowing this before you book, particularly if you want to add a few extras to your first Fright Nights experience.
Want to Fit More Into Your First Fright Nights Experience?
Four hours can go surprisingly quickly when you’ve got five mazes, rides, entertainment, and plenty happening across the park. If you want to maximise your time, there are a couple of upgrades worth knowing about.
Fast Track
Want to spend more of your night experiencing the scares? Fast Track can help you maximise your time by providing access to a shorter dedicated queue at selected participating attractions.
There are two options available for Fright Nights: Fast Track for Mazes and Rides, which covers selected participating mazes and rides, or Fast Track for Mazes if the haunted mazes are your main priority.
It’s a handy upgrade to consider if you’re hoping to tick off plenty of your Fright Nights must-dos in one night.
First Bite
Want to start the night a little differently? First Bite is a pre-event experience beginning at 4:30pm in an exclusive VIP lounge area.
The 2026 experience includes a live DJ, horror character meet and greets, canapés and drinks during First Bite, plus a Last Bite Pass with selected food and drink items to redeem later in the night. First Bite is an optional upgrade and Fright Nights event entry is required separately.
It could be a good option if you want to make a full evening out of your first Fright Nights visit rather than arriving right as the scares begin.

Download the App Before You Go
Before heading to Fright Nights, download the Village Roadshow Theme Parks App and get yourself organised.
You can have your ticket ready on your phone, then use the app during your visit to help navigate the park and plan your night. Check the interactive map, keep an eye on attraction information and use current wait times to help decide where to head next.
That last one can make a big difference. If one of your must-do attractions has a longer queue, check what else is nearby rather than spending your night walking back and forth across the park.
What to Wear to Fright Nights
The best answer to what to wear to Fright Nights is something comfortable enough for several hours of walking, queuing and possibly sprinting away from something with a chainsaw.
Comfortable shoes are a smart choice, especially if you want to fit rides, mazes and precincts into one night.
Want to dress up? Costumes and light facial make-up are allowed. However, decorative full-face coverings and make-up that prevents facial identification are not permitted. Dangerous items and weapons also cannot be brought into Movie World, and some costume pieces may need to be removed before riding certain attractions.
Basically, spooky is fine. Just make sure your outfit is practical enough to survive the night.
First-Timer Tips for Making the Most of Fright Nights
If this is your first time at Fright Nights, you really don’t need a minute-by-minute itinerary, but a little planning goes a long way.
Before you arrive, pick a few must-dos. If you’re a horror person, that might mean all five mazes and a WB Horror Encounter. If thrill rides are more your thing, choose your top mazes and leave time for a coaster or two after dark.
Arrive early, have your ticket ready and use the app throughout the night to keep an eye on what’s happening around the park. If you really want to maximise your time, you can also consider Fast Track to minimise your wait in line at participating attractions.
And remember, you don't have to do everything. Half the fun of Fright Nights is the atmosphere between attractions.
